Kaani Grand Seaview is a four-star hotel on Maafushi, an inhabited local island in South Malé Atoll, about 26 km from Malé. It stands on the seafront directly opposite Bikini Beach, the stretch of sand where swimwear is allowed, and offers nine room types.
It suits couples and families who want the lagoon on the doorstep and prefer the life of a local island to a private resort, as well as travellers who plan to spend their days on boat trips. Every room has a balcony, air conditioning, a minibar and a tea and coffee maker; most look out over the sea, while the Quadruple faces the island and sleeps five.
On site there is a restaurant with lagoon views, a spa (with a charge), a fitness centre, a 24-hour front desk and an excursion centre that arranges snorkelling, diving and sandbank trips with a charge. Wi-Fi is free throughout, and the Kaani speedboat links the island to Velana International Airport in about 35 minutes.
The hotel stands on the seafront directly across from Bikini Beach, about 15 metres from the entrance. On Maafushi, an inhabited local island, this is the only beach where swimwear is allowed, while elsewhere shoulders and knees should be covered. Sun loungers and umbrellas are set out on the sand, and the turquoise lagoon is right there for a swim.
All nine room types have a private balcony, and most look straight out over the lagoon; the Quadruple faces the island instead. Most rooms have a super-king or king-size bed, and guests often single out how comfortable the beds are. In the evening the balcony becomes the place to watch the sunsets that reviewers mention again and again.
The on-site excursion centre organises the classic Maafushi outings: picnics on a sandbank, dolphin watching, snorkelling trips to nearby reefs and diving, all with a charge. Getting there is simple too, as the Kaani group's own speedboat links Velana International Airport and Maafushi in about 35 minutes, with daily departures at fixed times to confirm with the hotel when you share your flight details.
Kaani Grand Seaview is on Aabaadhee Hingun Road, on the seafront of Maafushi, a local island in South Malé Atoll about 26 km south of Malé. The island measures roughly 1.3 km by 260 m and has no cars or taxis, so everything is done on foot: Bikini Beach is just across the road and the harbour about six minutes' walk away.
